Conservation Challenges Faced by this Species:
Mexico and Patagonia, South America
Pumas face mounting threats driven by severe habitat loss and the depletion of their natural prey. Expanding road infrastructure divides their territories, leading to frequent vehicle collisions and roadkill. Low numbers of wild prey forces pumas to target livestock, causing human-wildlife conflict and retaliatory killings. This close proximity to agricultural settlements also accelerates dangerous disease transmission from domestic animals, while illegal hunting further threatens their survival.
