Conservation Challenges Faced by this Species:

Kasigau, Kenya

The main threat for the vulture across East Africa is due to poisoning from pesticides and lead ammunition in the carrion, primarily outside of protected areas. Due to the number of birds that can feed from the same carrion, one poisoned carcass can have a significant impact on the entire population. Further effects of habitat loss, hunting, and loss of wild ungulates leading to less carrion all increase pressure on populations. Electrocution from powerlines can also have a substantial effect on populations in parts of their range.
