Conservation Challenges Faced by this Species:

Arakhan Mountains, Myanmar

Logging and hunting are the main threats for the species Due to political and ethnic conflicts, the Myanmar government have had limited success promoting conservation actions to help maintain and restore habitats as well as prevent hunting on the borders with India and Bangladesh. This has meant that deforestation and hunting have spilled over into Myanmar and decreased population sizes. As the country has the largest remaining stronghold of intact habitat for the species, it holds an extreme significance in the conservation of this gibbon.
