Conservation Challenges Faced by this Species:

Dolakha, Nepal

Red pandas are critically threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, largely driven by deforestation for livestock herding. This damage also affects their primary food source, bamboo, which struggles to re-establish in disturbed areas. Both livestock-guarding and free-roaming dogs pose a severe dual threat. They not only directly kill red pandas but also spread fatal diseases, including the distemper virus and gastrointestinal parasites. Further pressures by humans from poaching and the illegal wildlife trade further reduce red panda numbers.
