Mexican Long-nosed Bat

The Mexican or Greater long-nosed bat is highly sensitive to roost disturbance. Human disturbance and destruction is a primary threat for the species as it can cause the deaths of young that fall from their roost. It also causes increased use of fat reserves during hibernation, often leading to starvation. This is compounded by purposeful destruction of roosts across Mexico due to the suspicion they are vampire bats. Further threats from human exploitation of agave and habitat loss for agriculture also affect populations.
