Conservation Challenges Faced by this Species:

Lowland Forests, Madagascar

The Madagascan serpent-eagle requires undisturbed lowland to mid-altitude forests to survive. Slash-and-burn agriculture, alongside uncontrolled bush fires and poor mining practices have caused large-scale habitat loss and fragmentation. Further pressures from human hunting and the capture of their prey for the exotic pet trade are reducing numbers within the intact habitat.
