Conservation Challenges Faced by this Species:
Kasigau, Kenya
Hunting for both meat and body parts using dogs, guns and snares is one of the largest threats to Maasai giraffe. Certain body parts have been mistakenly thought to provide medicinal cures for diseases such as HIV/ AIDS. Alongside this, land-use change has led to habitat loss and fragmentation which further threatened the species.
