Conservation Challenges Faced by this Species:

Carabobo State, Venezuela

Lowland tapir population in the northeast of South America are only found within protected areas due to strong pressures outside of these regions. Prevalent illegal hunting, combined with harassment from dogs, causes significant decreases in these populations. Alongside this, illegal timber activities and competition with cattle further reduces numbers.
