Conservation Challenges Faced by this Species:
Java, Indonesia
Intense habitat loss and fragmentation are decreasing population sizes. The loris are also caught for the pet trade and sometimes for folk medicine and other traditional uses. Due to the fact they do not leap between trees and choose to sleep in trees and bamboo that can be easily accessed, they are easily caught by humans. Poor conditions in the trade of the animals lead to a high mortality rate and reintroduction of confiscated loris is challenging and often unsuccessful. The large scale of movement and release of the creatures has also created significant issues with hybridisation and the spread of infections and parasites.
