Conservation Challenges Faced by this Species:

Goodfare, Canada

While the grey wolf is not considered threatened, it is experiencing increased pressures from legal hunting and habitat loss. The use of trapping and poisoning in culling has raised animal welfare concerns and efforts to decrease numbers have not shown definite improvements in caribou numbers as expected.

Dolakha, Nepal

The Nepalese grey wolf, also known as the Himalayan wolf, is a subspecies classed as vulnerable by the IUCN. Due to low numbers of wild prey, they frequently attack livestock, leading to retaliatory killing. Competition with wild dogs and hybridisation poses a severe threat to the population and the close interaction can cause disease transmission.
