Conservation Challenges Faced by this Species:

Arakhan Mountains, Myanmar

Due to the habitat requirements for the great hornbill, needing extensive undisturbed forest, illegal logging and land conversion offer significant threats through causing habitat fragmentation. Populations are further targeted due to demand for the meat, fat and body parts which are used for food, medicine, and cultural practices. They are also targeted for the illegal pet trade. Each of these factors is leading to the species population declining across their range.
