The Project
The Caldenal Ecoregion of La Pampa contains 70% of Argentina’s remaining native caldén forest, a landscape increasingly threatened by shrub encroachment, soil degradation, and high-intensity wildfires. With support from the Regenerative Fund for Nature, Wildlife Friendly® and WCS Argentina are advancing a Regenerative + Wildlife Friendly® livestock model to restore ecosystem health while strengthening rancher livelihoods. By linking regeneratively produced hides and beef to emerging nature-positive markets, the initiative is building a scalable model for climate-resilient, wildlife-compatible rangeland production in Argentina.

Our Interventions
Project interventions encourage the adoption of Regenerative + Wildlife Friendly management practices, protecting key species in the Argentinian steppe. These interventions include:

Awareness and producer engagement on Regenerative + Wildlife Friendly® livestock management.

Baseline vegetation, soil, infrastructure and water assessments across participating ranches.

Development of grazing management plans based on ranch-level carrying capacity and pasture condition.

Support for improved grazing management, including short grazing periods, longer rest periods, and better paddock use.

Guidance on habitat regeneration, including management of shrub encroachment, grassland recovery, and fire-risk reduction.

Wildlife coexistence support, including reinforcement of wildlife protection practices and reduction of conflict with native carnivores.

Ecosystem health and biodiversity monitoring, including camera trapping, bird surveys, vegetation surveys, soil analysis, and wildlife observations.

Producer workshops and field days to share regenerative livestock practices and build local engagement.

Support for Wildlife Friendly® and regenerative certification of participating ranches.
