Wildlife Friendly® Tourism

Tourists consistently seek out experiences within nature, and want to know that the experiences they want aren't damaging to local environments and communities. Ecotourism attracts large crowds annually, but it is imperative that ecotourist operations are carried out in Wildlife Friendly® ways so that our natural environments can be conserved and enjoyed for years to come.

Kenya

At the Tsavo Conservancy in Kenya, Wildlife Works are integrating indigenous history and knowledge into their conservation and tourism practices. Guest accommodations are built using locally-sourced natural materials and methods. Guests are encouraged to engage with the culture and history of the conservancy, being show how to make traditional crafts such as sisal baskets, visiting Taita and Duruma women's groups for traditional dances, and meeting the Maasai community. Wildlife Works Rangers take guests on bush walks to teach them about the modern uses of natural bush resources. Whilst tourist's enjoy their stay in Tsavo, they are supporting about 100 local families, and are visiting part of a protected conservation area that spans 100,000 hectares.

Argentina

In the heart of rural Patagonia, Don José ranch provides tourists with adventure experiences that allow them to connect with nature, and teach them about regional farming. The ranch allows its guest to learn about the GuenGuel project, a project focused on the sustainable breeding of guanacos for the production of luxurious fine fibers from Patagonia. Guests can experience the Patagonian steppe on horseback, stopping for traditional mate and fried cakes. Tourists observe the native fauna and flora whilst on hikes and at the cabins. A visit to the ranch supports a family-run business steeped in history, and offers the opportunity to discover the Tehuelche culture, the indigenous culture of Patagonia.
